BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD OF ALABAMA

Throughout my 10-week internship, I was shown some of the most valuable skills I could ever imagine. The corporate communications and community relations team made sure I felt like one of their own and allowed me jump in head-first with their ongoing projects.

I worked closely with the BlueNews team, which is the BCBS internal newsletter that gets sent out to associates weekly. I was able to write over 20 stories for BlueNews, take part in their weekly planning meetings and attend off-site meetings. I also was able to help edit other various stories for the newsletter. A majority of the stories I wrote revolved around Blue Cross Blue Shield's partnership with United Way, and allowed me to reach out to nonprofits that United Way sponsors for interviews.

I also spent a lot of time with the media team, which creates majority of digital content for internal use for BCBS of Alabama. This meant, I tagged along for a number of interviews, video shoots, photo shoots and community events. I was able to make the trip to Huntsville, where BCBS donated a fitness court to Legacy Park. While there, the media team shot video, drone footage and photos for social media and internal use. I also made the trip to Montgomery, to the Alabama Drive-Thru Safari, where we took photos of the experience for the 2024 Medicare calendar. The media team also shoots Facebook Live videos weekly, which I was able to help with in the studio.

Overall, this experience made me feel like I was a professional working in a professional setting daily. I was also able to meet close to 30 other students around the same stage of life as me from all over the country, which made me feel like I wasn't alone throughout this process. I am so thankful for this valuable experience and it is something I will take with me throughout my entire professional career.
